Consulting Case Study · 2023
Purpose-Led Growth in FMCG
A consulting case study on how a purpose-led strategy became a repeatable revenue-growth playbook for FMCG companies, using Nestlé as the reference case.

Overview
A case study written as a junior member of ShARE (Growing Change Makers), asking how a 'purpose-led' approach can become a winning strategy to drive revenue growth in an FMCG company, structured and delivered like a real consulting engagement.
Problem
Leaders consistently undervalue purpose as a growth lever, even though 84% of employees and 60% of customers say they favor companies with a clear purpose. Common myths, that purpose is just CSR, a PR strategy, or too abstract to measure, keep FMCG companies from treating it as a serious commercial lever.
Solution
Using Nestle's 2015 to 2022 turnaround as the reference case, the study isolates a repeatable N-E-T framework, Navigational portfolio and innovation moves, Efficient operations through its Continuous Excellence program, and Tactical Excellence in pricing and marketing, and traces each pillar to a measurable outcome: sales, underlying trading operating profit, EPS growth, and total shareholder returns.
My Role
Junior member, ShARE (Growing Change Makers). I researched the industry and company data, built the N-E-T framework from Nestle's public disclosures, and wrote the risk-and-mitigation recommendations.
Process
- 01
Background research
Sized the gap between what employees and customers say they want from purpose-led companies and what leaders actually prioritize.
- 02
Industry analysis
Benchmarked Nestle, P&G, and PepsiCo on revenue and purpose-led metrics (Leadership in UN SDG impact, ESG credibility, Delivery) to select the reference case.
- 03
Case study
Traced Nestle's 2015 revenue decline and its recovery through the N-E-T strategy, sourcing each claim to company disclosures and third-party data.
- 04
Recommendations
Converted the case into a risk-likelihood matrix and mitigation plan for FMCG companies adopting a purpose-led approach.

“This case taught me that 'purpose' only survives contact with leadership when it is translated into a P&L line, a framework without a number attached to it is just a slogan.”
